How often do you get static shock when you touch a door knob or another person? Does your skin get really dry and itchy every winter?

A whole house humidifier can help fix those issues. The humidity is taken out of the your home during the winter due to the warm dry air from your heating system running all the time. Adding moisture back into the air will stop the shocks and dry skin problems. It also will help the heat balance where some areas don't feel quite as comfortable as other areas.

Most whole house humidifiers only take a few hours to install and are very easy to maintain. These humidifiers can be installed on most forced air system, but if your home doesn't have a forced air unit, you still have options.

As always, Focus HVAC offers free estimates and can provide tips on how to improve the comfort level in your home. You can reach us at 856-344-2027.

<![CDATA[Annual Heater Service]]>Tue, 14 Oct 2014 15:01:47 GMThttps://focus-hvac.com/hvac-blog/annual-heater-servicePicture
In a perfect situation, your heating system could stay clean for years but chances are your system isn’t running in a perfect situation. The cleaner your system is, the more efficient it will run.

An oil furnace will lose efficiency quickly when the annual service is overlooked and will eventually start emitting soot dust. Clogged filters and nozzles will cause higher oil usage to heat your home and eventually cause breakdowns. Gas heaters can appear much cleaner to an untrained eye, but still need an annual service to keep the burners clean and the moving parts lubed.

An annual servicing, or “tune-up”, helps keep your heater running at peak efficiency. Our technicians will check the operations of safety controls, motors, and the flame sensing system. We will change filters, clean up soot, dirt and grime, and perform a combustion analysis and efficiency test. Often, with our combustion analysis kit, we can have your heater running better than it ever has.

Heater efficiency can easily be translated to money. If your system is running at 70% and could be running around 84%... that’s 14% of the cost to operate your heater wasted instead of keeping you warm. Tune-ups help find small problems before they become middle of the winter, late night, big problems.

Our tune-ups are a full system servicing. Be wary of some companies who offer cheap “Heater check-ups”. A lot of times they are nothing more than a quick filter change and glance over to see if they can find a cracked heat exchanger or another way to sell you a new furnace or boiler. A good tune-up should take about an hour to complete and when its done your heating system should be spotless inside and out.

Do you remember the last time you had your car serviced? Now when’s the last time you serviced the furnace?

Call Focus HVAC today to schedule a heating system tune-up. 856-344-2027

<![CDATA[Changes to NJ Heating & Air Conditioning Rebates]]>Wed, 06 Feb 2013 18:09:26 GMThttps://focus-hvac.com/hvac-blog/changes-to-nj-heating-air-conditioning-rebatesPicture
For the past few years, New Jersey state-funded rebate programs have helped residents offset the cost of upgrading heating and air conditioning systems with new high-efficiency Energy Star equipment.

Major changes to the NJ WarmAdvantage and CoolAdvantage rebate programs are
coming starting February 24, 2013. WarmAdvantage rebates for new high-efficiency gas and oil furnaces will drop from $400 to $250. CoolAdvantage rebates for new high-efficiency air conditioning systems will disappear as they fall from $500 to $0!

There will still be some great incentives to replace and upgrade your HVAC systems. Rebates for boilers will remain at $300, heat pumps will hold steady at $500, and high-efficiency water heater rebates will increase from $300 to $500! Plus there is an added bonus of lower utility bills which you will see once you replace those old energy hogging systems.

If you are thinking about replacing your old furnace or air conditioning system, don't lose out! Call us today at 856-344-2027 to schedule a free estimate.

<![CDATA[Chimney Liners]]>Wed, 30 Jan 2013 20:04:34 GMThttps://focus-hvac.com/hvac-blog/chimney-linersPicture
With many of our heating system replacement jobs, we include quote for a chimney liner. Some customers ask why it is needed and some customers decide to not have a chimney liner installed.

Chimney liners protect your family by preventing dangerous carbon monoxide gas from entering your home. As you can see in this picture, it is not unusual for the chimney mortar, and even the brick, to start to break down over time. This is common in many older homes in the area. When holes develop, poisonous exhaust fumes from your furnace can enter the living space of your home.

If you are getting a new heating unit, or if you recently had a unit installed without a liner, make sure you ask your heating and air conditioning company about a chimney liner. It will make the code official happy and keep your family safe!
